Garza West Release Outcomes
Garza West is a Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division facility. Its intake, receiving, and transient work makes the word “leaving” especially easy to misread. Many people leave Garza West for another TDCJ unit after classification or a temporary stay. That is an internal transfer. It is not a release from the state sentence, even though the person is no longer found at the Beeville address.
A true community release may occur through parole, mandatory supervision, or discharge. Parole allows a person to leave prison under TDCJ Parole Division supervision after a Board of Pardons and Paroles decision and completed release processing. Mandatory supervision is another form of supervised release governed by Texas law and eligibility rules. Discharge means the applicable sentence and supervision obligation have ended, unless another case or authority still controls the person. TDCJ status and history records distinguish these outcomes.

Confirm Garza West Release
Start with the TDCJ Online Inmate Search when the person may still be incarcerated. Search by TDCJ number or SID when possible. A name search needs an exact last name plus at least a first initial. Open the matching detail and compare the TDCJ number, offense, county of conviction, and court before relying on any date. Common names require care.
The public locator is chiefly a current-inmate tool. It may show a current unit, projected release date, parole eligibility date, and maximum sentence date. None is an actual release certificate. If the expected person no longer appears, move to TDCJ IVSS and official records instead of concluding that release occurred.

Garza West Release Dates
TDCJ date labels answer separate questions. A projected release date is Classification and Records’ present estimate if parole does not happen sooner. A parole eligibility date marks when a qualifying case may first receive review. A maximum sentence date generally points to full-term expiration. These are prospective fields, not proof that a person crossed the gate.
A scheduled release date and location can appear later, after a favorable decision and further processing. It may still change. Release staff must audit the sentence, credits, conditions, release plan, warrants, detainers, and program requirements. A Board approval code also remains prospective until TDCJ completes this work. Garza West Release Records
TDCJ, not the Bee County Sheriff, keeps the state-prison release record. For basic information, the agency’s inmate information email instructions direct a requester to send the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number to pia@tdcj.texas.gov. If the number is unknown, include the exact date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. Available information can include the TDCJ number, conviction and incarceration history, location, and projected release data. The informal email channel does not supply photographs.
For a release certificate, discharge document, or defined incarceration history, use the TDCJ Office of General Counsel public information process. Identify the person, record, and time period as closely as possible. Requests may be emailed to PIA@tdcj.texas.gov or mailed to TDCJ Public Information Request, PO Box 4017, Huntsville, TX 77342. A focused request reduces confusion between an internal Garza West transfer and an actual state release.
The strongest proof is a TDCJ release or discharge certificate or an official incarceration history. IVSS release status and Review and Release confirmation are strong operational evidence. A projected date, scheduled date, or parole vote is weaker because it describes a planned or authorized event, not its completion.
Garza West Intake Transfers
The official Garza West directory identifies intake and receiving functions and transient custody. That role explains why a short stay can be followed by a different TDCJ location. The same TDCJ identifier follows the person across units, so a statewide search is more reliable than searching by “Bee County inmate.”

After viewing the unit listing, confirm any named person through TDCJ’s individual status tools. A facility directory proves the unit’s role, not a specific person’s release.
TDCJ also lists CHANGES, pre-release work, and reentry planning at Garza West. Those services can help prepare a person for a later release. Participation does not show that a release was approved or completed. The person-specific record still controls.
Bee County State Releases
Bee County contains several TDCJ directory facilities, which creates a local records trap. A person housed at Garza West is under state control, not Bee County Jail control. McConnell Unit is also identified by TDCJ as a Regional Release Site. That means a state prisoner convicted elsewhere may be processed out through Bee County, while a Bee County resident may leave from a different TDCJ site.
Physical location does not decide who holds the record. The state release certificate, IVSS history, parole status, and TDCJ incarceration history remain authoritative. County IVSS serves the participating county jail channel and should not be used as a substitute for TDCJ IVSS. When a search result conflicts with a planned release, prefer the agency that owns the event and the most specific dated record. Do not assume that approval became release or that departure from Garza West meant community freedom.
Garza West Release Holds
A TDCJ sentence ending does not always mean a direct return to the community. Another county warrant, a federal matter, or an immigration detainer may lead to a handoff. A detainer is a request by another authority concerning custody or notification. It does not prove that the receiving agency actually took custody.
If the TDCJ release history or release-processing staff identifies a transfer, check the named receiving system. The ICE detainee locator covers current or recently released ICE detainees but has stated gaps, so no result is inconclusive. A federal court docket and USMS records may control a federal transfer. Bee County’s old history of boarding prisoners for other governments does not prove a current contract at Garza West or elsewhere.
Ask for the terminal TDCJ event, destination, and receiving authority. That record-based sequence separates state release from transfer and avoids treating a gap in one locator as proof of freedom.
